TypeRoom Lite Enters Open Beta!
March 31st, 2008, Reilly SweetlandAfter several months of testing and refinement, we are happy to announce that TypeRoom Lite has now entered Open Beta.
You, your customers and friends are now welcome to use TypeRoom Lite to freely make changes to websites and collaborate on content.
The best part is that since it is still in beta, it is still free. However, we do expect there to be bugs that come up as we start to work with a wider sampling of websites.
If you have any friends, customers or websites of your own that you have been meaning to update, now is your chance!
Thanks again for your support and feedback and we look forward to hearing from you! Feel free to comment below or email us through the feedback links (or bug report links) in the app.

Supercool, I like it!
I’m not sure how the 12$ a month will work. Can I pay the monthly fee when
I need to make corrections and then stop the service?

@Mirkob: Glad you like it! At this time we’re not concerned with anybody canceling and resigning up.

Very nice, indeed. When you say “Simple”, you’re not
kidding. This would be an ideal way to give our client
the ability to make simple content changes to their
site, unfortunately, that site was built using
Dreamweaver templates and the TypeRoom edited pages seem
to have some extraneous /div’s thrown in which cause problems.
Still, we’ll not be using DW template in the next
redesign, so I’m looking forward to using TypeRoom Lite at that time.
One thing I’d like to see is some sort of highlighting that
of the changes made.
I’m looking forward to seeing what TypeRoom Pro has to offer.
Any info on system requirements?

@Carlos:
I really appreciate your feedback and feature requests! The extraneous divs problem is something we are actually working on improving. Hopefully we’ll have an update in the new future will fix this.
As for system requirements for TypeRoom Pro, the main requirement will be Apache & PHP. More to come on this soon!

Very nice! It looks like this has a lot of potential.
I agree with Carlos that it is very simple. This is both good & bad. My impression is that I would need to layout the entire page using my standard methods. Once the page is setup I could use this to make simple changes to “blocks” that I had put in place.
This actually makes this awesome if you want to offer your client something simple. However, to a power designer, I believe they will find themselves somewhat cramped by the limitation.
I don’t want this to sound too negative though. I am VERY impressed with what I’ve seen. It’s clean, simple, and a joy to play with!

Gabe, Thanks for the comments. TypeRoom Lite is definitely a niche product with our primary focus being simplicity of use and ease of integration. TypeRoom Pro aims to be a much more robust CMS.
While there is no one-size-fits all CMS, we think that aiming to solve a specific problem well is more worth while than solving a lot of problems halfway. (ref. 37Signal’s posts on “opinionated software”)
